SEATTLE – Crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will continue performing highway construction work in Kirkland next week.  If weather cooperates, they plan to restripe lanes and install signs. Construction closures affecting I-405 traffic the week of Jan. 19-26 include:

Interstate 405 mainline

NEW –
Crews may close one lane in each direction between NE 85th Street and NE 116th Street Monday, January 22 through Friday, January 26 to install signs. Northbound closures will be between 5 a.m. and 2 p.m., southbound closures between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

NEW – Expect closures of the southbound HOV lane near NE 128th Street Monday through Thursday from noon each day to 5 a.m. the following morning, and from 7 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday. Crews will be working on the new HOV ramps.

NEW – Drivers should expect overnight closures of up to three lanes in either direction near NE 116th Street between Monday, January 22 and Thursday, January 25 while crews restripe lanes. Southbound, the first lane will close as early as 7 p.m., with all lanes reopen by 5 a.m. the following morning. Northbound, the first lane will close as early as 9 p.m., with all lanes reopen by 6 a.m. the following morning.  Since dry pavement is required for striping, work will be done on the first dry nights. Lane closures will not occur in both directions simultaneously.

Kirkland streets affected by I-405 construction:

On Jan. 8, crews closed the intersection of 116th Avenue NE and NE 128th Street to rebuild the roadway to meet the height of the new NE 128th Street Bridge.  The intersection will remain closed for up to eight weeks (possibly longer if poor weather affects construction progress). More information and a detour route are available at www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/i405/TotemLake/construction.

All of these closures are necessary for crews to perform work associated with WSDOT’s Kirkland Nickel Improvement Project and Sound Transit’s Totem Lake Freeway Station Project.  For more information or to sign up for e-mail updates, visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/i405.
