Washington State Ferries is partnering with six transit agencies on a region-wide smartcard system, called ORCA (One Regional Card for All) This new system, which will allow users one card on all transit systems in the region, features a digital chip and e-money as well products such as passes and frequent user media. As part of our efforts, we will be testing the products on the Seattle/Bremerton route. The testing period will start today, Tuesday, Dec. 5 and is expected to last for six weeks.
Because the smartcard project is in the early stages of development, we expect to find problems and look forward to addressing them. A key element of the test will be having test participants identify and report problems for us as they occur. Problem reporting forms will be sent to participants and will also be available at the designated test information areas (see Page 2 of this Quick Notice) and on the test website. Participants will be asked to complete a problem reporting form any time they encounter a problem or experience difficulty in using their card. Smartcard staff will evaluate these reports on a daily basis and respond with fixes as needed.
If you are not a regular traveler on the Seattle-Bremerton route, then we would like to invite each of you to visit our Seattle and Bremerton terminals. Our two knowledgeable testers will be able to give you a tour of our operations. They will be adjusting their hours (see Page 2) during customer testing so they can support the commuter traffic. If you signed up to participate in our
customer beta, keep an eye on your mailboxes for your "welcome packet" and begin testing as soon as you receive it.
