EVERETT – Drivers can expect long delays on northbound I-5 on the weekend of January 5 – 8 as work continues to widen the freeway in Everett. The weekend work will require a lane and ramp closure at the I-5/41st Street exit. Crews are paving part of the freeway that will eventually become the new 41st Street interchange.

Traffic engineers estimate delays of up to 3 hours if the usual amount of traffic drives through the area on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and evening. Drivers can help minimize delays by taking alternate routes, driving through Everett in the mornings or at night and by only taking necessary trips.

Lane closure
On northbound I-5 crews will close the right lane from Broadway to Pacific Avenue starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, January 5. The lane will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, January 8.

Ramp closure
At 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5 crews will close the 41st Street on-ramp to northbound I-5. The ramp will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, Jan 8.

This work is weather dependant and could be shifted to the next available dry weekend.

Drivers can plan ahead for this and other construction closures by visiting the construction update report for Snohomish County at www.wsdot.wa.gov/Northwest/Snohomish/Construction/ or by calling 511.
