WSDOT Urges the Public to Not Enter Closure Area
CHEHALIS – State Route 508 at Bear Canyon remains unstable, with a complete road closure still in place. This very unstable section of the roadway remains closed to motorists, as well as to pedestrians and bicycles. WSDOT (Washington State Department of Transportation) urges the public to stay out of the closure area due to instability of the roadway.
To enhance public safety, “no trespassing” signs and fencing will be installed today, Dec. 1, to close off the area to non-motorized vehicles and pedestrians, and to prevent non-authorized persons from entering the area.
A complete closure of SR 508 in the vicinity of Bear Canyon began after heavy rains caused an unstable slope (milepost 21) in early November. Crews must wait for the slope to stabilize, before geotechnical specialists can evaluate the slope and determine a plan of action.
The detour that remains is as follows:
East of Cinebar
Motorists east of Cinebar on SR 508 are detoured to US 12 in Morton.
West of Cinebar
Motorists west of Cinebar on SR 508 are detoured to I-5 south, then to US 12.
