SEATTLE – Snow has been falling around the sound and WSDOT crews have ramped up service all around the Puget Sound Region to combat snow and ice that could hamper tomorrow morning’s commute. Maintenance offices in Whatcom, Skagit, Snohomish and King Counties had crews out all day monitoring road conditions and applying deicer, sanding, and plowing where necessary.

A total of 67 trucks will be out monitoring the highways tonight and through tomorrow morning in the greater Puget Sound area. Crews will be concentrating efforts on overpasses, ramps and curves. The I-5 express lanes will remain open northbound throughout the night so crews can stay on top of weather conditions effecting the I-5 corridor through downtown. Crews will reverse the express lanes southbound just before 5 a.m. in time for the morning commute. A total of 9 trucks will concentrate their service on I-5 from South Center to the I-405/I-5 interchange in Lynnwood. 8 trucks will focus on East King County.

Despite our best efforts drivers should be advised that conditions can change quickly. Drivers should still expect patches of ice, water or snow on the roads. Posted speed limits are for dry conditions only, so drivers should slow down and take lots of extra time to reach their destinations tomorrow morning.
