ISSAQUAH – Drivers will have one less obstacle in their way this Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
Crews completed emergency slide repairs on State Route 18 east of Issaquah Hobart Road early Tuesday morning and reopened the eastbound truck lane. The lane had been closed since last Thursday when a landslide caused by heavy rain pushed Holder Creek into the slope below the north side of the highway. The rerouted creek eroded the bottom of the slope, undermining the roadway above.
WSDOT restricted SR 18 traffic to two lanes in this location to create a safe work zone while crews rebuilt the slope to prevent further roadway damage. Completing the repairs in time for the holiday weekend was a combined effort of WSDOT and the contractor team led by KLB Construction.
“Crews worked around the clock to get the lane open for drivers,” WSDOT Project Engineer Derek Case said. “WSDOT staff and our contractors faced a difficult situation and rose to the challenge.”
