(BAINBRIDGE ISLAND) A summary of the public comments received at the September 28 community workshop is now available on the project webpage. Washington State Ferries' (WSF) project team is evaluating this input as they develop draft alternatives for the ferry terminal facilities.
The workshop served as the first opportunity for both the City of Bainbridge Island and WSF to gather public feedback after they began working collaboratively to understand common priorities, exchange ideas and design concepts for the ferry terminal and surrounding neighborhood.
WSF Executive Director Mike Anderson was enthusiastic about the event, "We were excited to see over 100 participants at the public workshop and the extent of public input and ideas. We look forward to continuing in this process with the same level of collaboration," he said.
The next step for the project is to enter into the environmental review process, beginning with public scoping meetings in early December. Scoping meetings are held early in the life of a project and help determine the "scope" of issues to be studied in the environmental review document. WSF is preparing a State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)/National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Environmental Assessment (EA) for proposed improvements to the ferry terminal. The official scoping period will open on November 20, 2006 and extend to January 12, 2007. Public comment received during the scoping period will be considered in the environmental document.
As part of preparing for scoping, WSF is meeting with the Project Community Advisory Group (CAG) to review public comments received at workshop and to preview the draft alternatives. The sixth meeting of the CAG is scheduled for Wednesday, November 15 from 5:45-8:30 p.m. at the Commodore Options School (9530 NE High School Rd).
