Date:  Friday, October 20, 2006

Contact: Claudia Cornish, Tacoma Narrows Bridge Communications Manager, (253) 534-4660

TACOMA – Westbound State Route 16 will be reduced to one lane during night hours next week for sign bridge work, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.  Weather permitting, at 9 p.m. on Thursday, October 26, crews will reduce westbound SR 16 to one lane near the Jackson Avenue interchange just east of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge.

Between midnight and 4 a.m., motorists can expect a westbound rolling slowdown through the same location that will delay westbound motorists up to 30 minutes.  The westbound lane is scheduled to reopen by 7 a.m. Friday, October 27.

During the lane closure and rolling slowdown, crews will remove a sign bridge that spans the westbound lanes.  This work is part of the ongoing new Tacoma Narrows Bridge project.

WSDOT would also like to remind motorists that between 10 p.m. Saturday, October 21, and 6 a.m. Sunday, October 22, WSDOT bridge maintenance crews will close the right eastbound lane across the bridge to repair an expansion joint.
