KIRKLAND – Construction effects on traffic on and around Interstate 405 in Kirkland October 20 to 27:
Interstate 405 mainline
- NEW – Monday through Thursday nights expect closures of up to two northbound lanes between NE 85th and NE 124th streets to shift barriers. The first lane will close at 9 p.m. each night, and all northbound lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. each morning. These closures could be postponed due to rain.
- UPDATED – Monday through Thursday nights expect closures of up to three southbound lanes through Kirkland as crews shift and install barriers and work on the NE 128th Street Bridge. The first lane will close at 7 p.m. each night, and all southbound lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. each morning. These closures could be postponed due to rain.
- NEW – Crews plan to close the northbound HOV lane near NE 116th Street on Friday night, Oct. 20, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for barrier work. This closure could be postponed due to rain.
- UPDATED - Expect periodic closures of the northbound HOV lane between NE 124th and NE 132nd streets Monday through Friday. These closures protect drivers as construction vehicles enter and leave the median work zone.
- NEW - Crews plan to close the southbound HOV lane between NE 132nd and NE 124th streets from noon Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday for paving, weather permitting. Rain could postpone this closure.
I-405 / NE 124th Street interchange
Monday through Thursday nights expect closures of various northbound and southbound on- and off-ramps at NE 124th Street between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. for paving and striping. Signed detours will be in place.
Kirkland streets affected by I-405 construction
- UPDATED – Crews will close all lanes of NE 116th Street under I-405 from 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20 to 4 a.m. Monday, Oct. 23 to demolish portions of the NE 116th Street Bridge. Signs on I-405 and local streets will provide detour route information. NE 116th Street is scheduled to be closed again November 17-20.
- UPDATED - Expect weekday lane closures on southbound Totem Lake Boulevard near NE 128th Street for access to the work zone in the I-405 median.
- 116th Ave. NE is reduced to one lane in each direction at the NE 128th Street intersection for several weeks as crews rebuild the intersection. Flaggers will assist construction vehicles entering and leaving the work zone and will direct pedestrian traffic.
All of these closures are necessary for crews to perform work associated with WSDOT’s Kirkland Nickel Improvement Project and Sound Transit’s Totem Lake Freeway Station Project. For more information or to sign up for e-mail updates, visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/i405.
