GIG HARBOR – Lane closures and an eastbound traffic realignment will occur on State Route 16 at the Tacoma Narrows Bridge site next week. The first closure is part of the ongoing Tacoma Narrows Bridge project; the second closure is needed for maintenance work on the existing bridge.
Weather-permitting, the closures and work will occur as follows:
7 p.m. Tuesday, October 17, to 5 a.m. Wednesday, October 18
Eastbound SR 16 will be reduced to one lane across the bridge. During the night, crews will move the two eastbound lanes south of their current location onto newly-constructed permanent eastbound lanes that align with the new bridge.
10 p.m. Saturday, October 21, to 6 a.m. Sunday, October 22
WSDOT bridge maintenance crews will close the right eastbound lane across the bridge to repair an expansion joint. Westbound traffic will not be affected.
