KENNEWICK - SR 240 eastbound from George Washington Way Interchange to Columbia Center Blvd. will be closed from 9:00 a.m. Thursday, until 5:30 a.m. Monday, November 6th. The long weekend closure is required so that WSDOT's contractor can remove existing asphalt and gravel before constructing a temporary detour. The detour is needed in order to switch SR 240 eastbound traffic to the westbound bridge over the Yakima River. This will also allow construction of temporary off ramps at the Richland Wye and Columbia Center Boulevard Interchanges. The contractor will work around the clock, Thursday through Sunday, to minimize the closure time and traffic disruptions. The Washington State Patrol will assist WSDOT crews by setting up, maintaining, and taking down the closures.
Detour:
Drivers should watch for electronic message boards and exit Richland onto I-182 eastbound and westbound, or go out of Richland via Wellesian Way or any of the SR 240 Bypass Intersections, and use Queensgate Interchange south on to Columbia Park Trail or Keene Road.
Project Description:
This project improves three miles of SR 240 by adding new lanes. Work includes replacing the existing SR 240 Bridge at the Richland "Y" and widening the I-182 George Washington Way Interchange Bridge. This highway improvement was largely funded through the 2003 Transportation "Nickel" Package.
Construction Began: March 2005, Scheduled Completion: Fall 2007
