Southbound I-5 Closure Continues Next Week in Mount Vernon

**STATE CONSTRUCTION UPDATE**

Highway number: Interstate 5

Geographical location: Mt. Vernon, Skagit County

Description: Crews will close lanes on I-5 next week in Mount Vernon between College Way (exit 227) and Kincaid Street (exit 226) to pave the southbound lanes and replace concrete barrier dividing the northbound and southbound lanes.
 
Closures: Monday, Aug. 14 - Thursday, Aug. 17 one northbound lane from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.one southbound lane from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.all southbound lanes from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Other information: Crews have completed removing the old median barrier and will now pave the section of southbound I-5 with multiple layers of asphalt until the southbound roadway is level with the northbound roadway. Once paving is complete crews will anchor new concrete barrier in the median.Detour: WSDOT will provide a signed detour route to help drivers around the closure. Drivers will exit I-5 at College Way (exit 227), head south on Freeway Drive, turn left onto 3rd Street, turn left onto Kincaid Street, and then merge back onto I-5 (exit 226). Drivers should plan ahead and allow extra time for the detour route.
