SEATTLE – Today’s “DOT days of summer” project is the open house for SR 522 near Monroe.

  • Tomorrow night, WSDOT design engineers will host an open house at Monroe High School to talk about what’s next for the SR 522 corridor.
  • Residents and drivers will want to know the details about the plan to widen SR 522 from the Snohomish River to Monroe, how this will affect SR 522 traffic and how it will affect traffic in Monroe.
  • Engineers will discuss the many options in this plan including:
    • Widening the road from two to four lanes
    • Separating opposing lanes of traffic with a median
    • Building a second bridge across the Snohomish River
    • Installing a roundabout at 164th Avenue SE
  • Additional WSDOT staff will be present to discuss the US 2 Route Development Plan and SR 522 construction underway at Fales/Echo Lake Road.
  • The open house will be held at Monroe High School, 17001 Tester Road, Monroe from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23.

What else is happening on SR 522 east of Maltby?
WSDOT engineers have developed a plan to widen SR 522 between Paradise Lake Road and the Snohomish River, but currently there is no money to build this project. To learn more about this work go to: www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/SR522/Widen/Paradise_SnoRiver/

What’s next for the “DOT days of summer”?
Through mid-September, WSDOT will count down the “DOT days of summer,” highlighting key milestones for important WSDOT projects.

Why are August and September such busy months for WSDOT? August has a lot of things going for it. It’s consistently the driest month of the year, days and nights are warmer, and humidity is lower, which makes painting and paving easier as the products adhere better. September can be dry as well.

WSDOT currently has nearly 400 active construction projects underway around the state thanks to the 2003 and 2005 funding packages approved by the Washington State legislature.
