SEATTLE – Today’s “DOT days of summer” project is the 41st Street bridge replacement on I-5 in Everett.
August 21, 2006
- Tonight, contractors working for WSDOT will close both directions of I-5 at 41st Street in Everett at 10 p.m.
- During the closure, drivers will be taken off the freeway for a short detour.
- Crews will put up five 160-foot long steel girders that stretch across all lanes of I-5.
- All lanes will reopen at 4 a.m.
- Crews will close all lanes of I-5 in the same place Tuesday night, and, if work is not complete, Wednesday night as well.
- The next scheduled total freeway closure comes in early September.
What else is happening on I-5 in Everett?
This new bridge is part of the larger project underway to widen I-5 through Everett. Crews are building HOV lanes, widening the freeway and replacing or building 18 bridges between SR 526 and US 2.

What’s next for the “DOT days of summer”?
Through mid-September, WSDOT will count down the “DOT days of summer,” highlighting key milestones for important WSDOT projects.
Why are August and September such busy months for WSDOT? August has a lot of things going for it. It’s consistently the driest month of the year, days and nights are warmer, and humidity is lower, which makes painting and paving easier as the products adhere better. September can be dry as well.

WSDOT currently has nearly 400 active construction projects underway around the state thanks to the 2003 and 2005 funding packages approved by the Washington State legislature.
