MALTBY – This Monday night, crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will completely close State Route 524 just east of the SR 9 intersection while they install a pipe to redirect water away from the existing Whistle Creek culvert. The culvert will replaced in October.
Closure:
- 8 p.m. Monday, August 21 – 5 a.m. Tuesday, August 22: Crews will close SR 524 just east of the SR 9 intersection.
- Crews will provide a detour route utilizing SR 9, 180th Street SE, 91st Avenue SE, Maltby Road and SR 522.
- Drivers should plan ahead and expect delays.
When this project is finished in the spring of 2008, two miles of SR 9 will be transformed from a two-lane, rural highway into a four-lane, divided urban highway with additional turn lanes at major intersections. Widening SR 9 and improving intersections will relieve traffic congestion and improve traffic flow and safety for the 33,000 drivers who use the highway each day.
This project is funded with $33.5 million from the 2003 Legislative Funding Package. For more information, visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/SR9/sr522_212thst.
