Highway number: Interstate 5

Geographical location: Mt. Vernon, Skagit County

Description: Crews will close lanes on I-5 next Monday in Mount Vernon between College Way (exit 227) and Kincaid Street (exit 226) to finish paving the southbound lanes, replace concrete barrier dividing the northbound and southbound lanes, and replace southbound shoulder guardrail.

Closures:
Monday, Aug. 21
• one northbound lane from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
• one southbound lane from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
• all southbound lanes from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 22, 23
• one southbound lane from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Other information: Crews expect to finish paving southbound I-5 Monday night. Once paving is complete crews will then anchor the new concrete barrier in the median. Tuesday and Wednesday crews will replace guardrail on the southbound shoulder of I-5.

Detour: WSDOT will provide a signed detour route to help drivers around the closure Monday night. Drivers will exit I-5 at College Way (exit 227), head south on Freeway Drive, turn left onto 3rd Street, turn left onto Kincaid Street, and then merge back onto I-5 (exit 226). Drivers should plan ahead and allow extra time for the detour route.
