WSDOT Counts Down Late Summer Days with Progress Reports on I-90

SEATTLE – Today’s "DOT days of summer" project is maintenance work on I-90 near Easton.

August 18, 2006

  • WSDOT maintenance crews begin a high-profile work on Monday to smooth and repair I-90 in both directions in Kittitas County.
  • Crews will repave many miles of I-90 between Easton and Elk Heights. They will also repair concrete panels, smoothing out that repetitive bump drivers feel when riding in their vehicles.
  • This work will close lanes on I-90 but will be done during daylight hours Monday through Thursday.
  • Work is expected to be complete by Oct. 1.

What’s next for I-90?

WSDOT contractors are working quickly to finish up the rock slope repair work just east of Snoqualmie Pass. The project began in June and is expected to be done By Oct. 1. Drivers in the area can see the significant work, but, as yet, the work has not caused back ups. Drives are making their way through the work zone using a bypass road designed to keep traffic moving.

About the DOT Days of Summer…

While many people enjoy the dog days of summer in August, WSDOT crews and contractors are entering their busiest month of the entire year. Over the next 30 days, WSDOT will count down the "DOT days of summer" highlighting key milestones for important WSDOT projects.

Why is August such a busy month for WSDOT? August has a lot of things going for it. It’s traditionally the consistently driest month of the year, days and nights are warmer, and humidity is lower which makes painting and paving easier as the products sticks better.
