SEATTLE – The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) announces a call for applications for the 2007-2009 Regional Mobility Grant Program. The grant program was established in 2005 by the Washington State Legislature to improve the coordination of transit services and to increase the use of transit to reduce congestion on our most heavily traveled highways.
“We expect to see project applications that move more people through congested corridors and better integrate transit services into the transportation system,” said Judy Giniger, WSDOT Public Transportation and Rail Director, at the 30th Annual Public Transportation Conference in Bellevue, Washington.
The Washington State Legislature provided $40 million to support the Regional Mobility Grant Program through the 2005 Transportation Partnerships Package. In creating the program, the Legislature also directed the department to coordinate public transportation services and improve the integration between public transportation and the highway system. The Regional Mobility Grant Program will aid local governments in funding public transportation projects that improve connections between cities and counties, rush hour transit on congested roadways, park and ride lots, and projects that reduce delay for people and goods.
WSDOT is accepting applications from cities, counties, transit systems and other government agencies through October 13, 2006. The project proposals will be prioritized and submitted to the Washington State Legislature on December 1, 2006. The Legislature will make the final determination on projects and awards. WSDOT anticipates awarding $40 million in grant funds for 2007-2009 projects, dependent upon available funding.
Electronic copies of the completed proposals are required (paper submittals will not be accepted) and are due by October 13, 2006 -- no later than 4:00 pm. Project proposals/applications may be sent via e-mail to OTMGrants@wsdot.wa.gov or provided on CD to the following address:
