MASON COUNTY – Temporary cameras in and around the area of Belfair are part of an origin destination survey to collect data for determining travel patterns.
WSDOT and Skillings-Connolly/The Transpo Group, Inc. are working together conducting an origin-destination (O-D) survey using six video cameras that are temporarily installed to capture the traveling patterns in the peak hours of 4 to 6 p.m. The cameras are in place on utility and/or light poles or other fixed objects and will capture only the first three characters of a license plate, and then try to match it on another camera to identify any travel patterns.
WSDOT says Belfair is experiencing a significant increase with traffic volumes and delays, resulting in a much-needed upgrade to their transportation system for the community in and around Belfair. The information WSDOT gains from the survey will provide a thorough understanding of traffic along the SR 3 corridor. The information is essential in developing the new Belfair high-speed bypass traffic model.
The six different locations will have two cameras at each site to capture both directions of travel. The locations of cameras are the following:
1. SR 3 West of the Mason/Kitsap County line
2. Old Belfair Hwy North of SR 300
3. SR 300 West of Old Belfair Hwy
4. SR 106 West of SR 3
5. SR 3 South of SR 302
6. SR 302 East of SR 3
