MASON COUNTYWSDOT will host a public open house regarding the Purdy Creek Bridge Replacement Project from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, at Hood Canal Elementary and Junior High School. The open house will provide an opportunity for the public to learn more about the project and to provide feedback.

WSDOT’s project staff will be available to answer questions and respond to concerns regarding the recommendations for the size and location of the new bridge. Displays will show project features that will be available throughout the length of the open house.

The existing Purdy Creek Bridge, located at the lowest point of US 101 in the Skokomish River Valley, is unable to allow floodwaters to pass underneath the roadway. The 2004 State Legislature assigned WSDOT to construct a raised US 101 roadway and replacement bridge.

Recommendations of a new bridge come from numerous studies. The new bridge will increase motorist safety, be upgraded to modern design standards, and will reduce the risk of a catastrophic failure.

Hood Canal Elementary and Junior High School is located at N. 111 State Route 106 in Shelton. The public is invited and may arrive any time during the open house, which will conclude promptly at 7 p.m.
