VANCOUVER – A project retrofitting two bridges on State Route 14 - one in Vancouver and one in Camas - will begin July 11. Motorists should expect some traffic impacts during the project, including single lane closures. WSDOT awarded this contract to Petersen Brothers, Inc. of Sumner, who submitted the winning bid of $173,018.

This project will retrofit two bridges on SR 14 by upgrading and installing new guardrail. The work will begin in the Vancouver area at the Evergreen Blvd. / Shorewood Drive Bridge (milepost 3). The second part of the project will retrofit the Washougal River Bridge (mileposts 13.65-13.82) on SR 14, just west of Camas. Construction is expected to last 30 working days.

During construction, motorists should expect daytime single lane closures on the Evergreen Blvd. / Shorewood Drive Bridge in Vancouver, and nighttime single-lane closures in the Camas area on State Route 14. There will be no lane closures on holidays or after 12 noon on a day preceding a holiday. For weekly updates on this and all other state traffic impacts in the region, please visit the WSDOT Southwest Region Weekly Travel Advisory Web page: www.wsdot.wa.gov/Regions/SouthWest/Construction/default.htm.

For more information about the SR 14, Bridge Rail Retrofit Project, please contact WSDOT’s Columbia Gorge Area Engineering Office by phone (866-279-0730), by e-mail (swgorge@wsdot.wa.gov).

Advance warning signs will be placed ahead of the construction area, and motorists are asked to observe and adhere to the posted speed limits when driving through the work zone. Motorists are also reminded that all traffic fines are doubled within a construction work zone when workers are present (RCW 46.61.527).
