WENATCHEE – Drivers coming into Wenatchee from the west on US 2/97 will have to slow down from 60 to 45 a little sooner and those leaving town will have to wait a little longer to speed up. On Wednesday, July 19th, WSDOT sign technicians will move the current speed limit signs near School Street about 1,000 further west, extending the current 45 MPH speed zone by about the equivalent of three football fields. Ten injuries from six collisions over the past three years at that location prompted the Washington State Patrol to request the Washington State Department of Transportation make the change. The 45 MPH sign for eastbound traffic will be flagged to alert drivers to the revision. (The 60 MPH sign for westbound traffic won’t be flagged since that wouldn’t provide any advance notice for drivers, who aren’t supposed to speed up until they get to the sign, anyway.)
