KIRKLAND – Construction effects on traffic on and around Interstate 405 in Kirkland June 8-15:

Interstate 405 mainline

  • UPDATED – Expect nightly closures of up to three northbound lanes near NE 128th Street every night except Friday night.  Sunday through Thursday nights, the first lane will close at 9 p.m., with up to three lanes closed by midnight, and all lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. each morning. On Saturday night the first lane will close at 7 p.m. and all lanes will reopen by 11 a.m. Sunday.  Crews will work on the east half of the new NE 128th bridge.
  • Expect periodic closures of the northbound and southbound HOV lanes near NE 124th Street EXCEPT during rush hours and on Friday night. These closures protect drivers as construction vehicles enter and leave the median work zone.

I-405 / NE 116th and NE 124th Street interchanges

  • Weather permitting, all northbound on-ramps at the NE 124th interchange will be closed Monday through Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for paving, striping, and setting barriers and guardrails. The northbound off-ramps will remain open. Drivers wishing to enter northbound I-405 will be detoured to NE 160th Street.
  • Drivers should expect delays at the southbound I-405 on-ramp at NE 116th Street.  This ramp is narrowed for several months for construction.  Carpools, vanpools and buses may use the HOV bypass lane on the NE 124th on-ramp.

Kirkland streets affected by I-405 construction

  • The right lane in each direction of Totem Lake Blvd. near NE 128th Street will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.  This protects drivers as construction vehicles enter and leave the work zone.
  • UPDATED - The right lane of northbound 116th Ave. NE near NE 128th Street will be closed Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sunday through Thursday nights from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Crews will fill in the area behind the new retaining wall along southbound I-405.

These closures are necessary for crews to perform work associated with Sound Transit’s Totem Lake Freeway Station Project.  For more information or to sign up for e-mail updates, visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/i405.
