Sunday Lane Closure for Northbound Battery Street Tunnel and Western Avenue On-Ramp

SEATTLE – Washington State Department of Transportation and the Seattle Department of Transportation maintenance crews will close one northbound lane of the Battery Street Tunnel, and the Western Avenue on-ramp, on Sunday, June 11 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Additional closures of the northbound right lane and of one lane on Battery Street will occur periodically throughout the next week.

What drivers should expect on Saturday, June 10:

  • One lane briefly closed (about 30 minutes) in the northbound direction of the Battery Street Tunnel at approximately 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
  • Rolling one lane closure on Battery Street, from Fifth Avenue to Denny Way. 

What drivers should expect on Sunday, June 11:

  • One lane closed in the northbound direction of the Battery Street Tunnel from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Closure of the Western Avenue on-ramp.
  • Rolling one lane closure on Battery Street, from Fifth Avenue to Denny Way. 

What drivers should expect from Monday, June 12 to Sunday, June 18:

  • One lane briefly closed (about 30 minutes) in the northbound direction of the Battery Street Tunnel at approximately 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
  • Rolling one-lane closure on Battery Street, from Fifth Avenue to Denny Way. 

Drivers can check traffic conditions before they leave at www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic. Drivers can also get the up-to-the minute traffic information on the road via the voice-activated driver information line, 511.

This preservation work is to test electrical equipment and inspect the ventilation system in the Battery Street Tunnel. Most work can be done from Battery Street, but limited closures of a lane in the Battery Street Tunnel are required for safety.
