KIRKLAND – Construction effects on traffic on and around Interstate 405 in Kirkland June 22-29:
Interstate 405 mainline
- NEW – All lanes of northbound I-405 at NE 124th Street will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, June 23 to 5 a.m. Tuesday, June 27. The southbound HOV lane could be closed intermittently Saturday and Sunday, but at least three southbound lanes will remain open.
- NEW – From June 20 to June 29 drivers should expect brief rolling slowdowns on northbound I-405 at approximately 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday nights and at approximately 4:30 a.m. Tuesday through Friday mornings. Crews will move equipment across the northbound lanes to work on the NE 128th Street bridge.
- UPDATED – Expect nightly closures of up to three lanes in each direction of I-405 in the Totem Lake area for work on the new NE 128th Street bridge and pothole repair. The first lane may close as early as 7 p.m. each night, with up to three lanes in each direction closed by midnight. All northbound lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. (11 a.m. Sunday), all southbound lanes by 5 a.m. (10 a.m. Sunday).
- NEW - On Saturday, June 24, crews will begin demolishing a section of noise wall along northbound I-405 between NE 85th and NE 100th streets to make room to widen I-405. Work will occur between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday and between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday, June 26 through Friday, June 30. No lanes will be closed because of this work but drivers should expect to see heavy equipment in this area.
- Expect periodic closures of the northbound and southbound HOV lanes near NE 124th Street EXCEPT during rush hours and on Friday night. These closures protect drivers as construction vehicles enter and leave the median work zone.
I-405 / NE 124th Street interchange
- NEW - At noon Friday, June 23, crews will close the northbound I-405 on-ramp from eastbound NE 124th Street to build connections allowing it to be used as a bypass around the northbound mainline construction. The ramp will remain closed until 4 p.m. next Friday, June 30 so crews can rebuild it to its final configuration. A signed detour will be in place.
I-405 / NE 116th Street interchange
- NEW – The northbound exit to NE 116th Street will be reduced to a single lane one night this week from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for crews to patch potholes and improve pedestrian access on NE 116th Street.
- Drivers should expect delays at the southbound I-405 on-ramp at NE 116th Street. This ramp is narrowed for several months for construction. Carpools, vanpools and buses may use the HOV bypass lane on the NE 124th on-ramp.
Kirkland streets affected by I-405 construction
- NEW – Drivers should anticipate a nighttime closure of the westbound right lane and sidewalk on NE 116th Street under I-405 one night this week from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for crews to patch potholes and improve pedestrian access.
- The right lane of northbound 116th Ave. NE near NE 128th Street will be closed Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This protects drivers as construction vehicles enter and leave the work zone.
- UPDATED - Drivers should anticipate closures of the right lane in each direction of Totem Lake Blvd. near NE 128th Street from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. This protects drivers as construction vehicles enter and leave the work zone.
All of these closures are necessary for crews to perform work associated with WSDOT’s Kirkland Nickel Improvement Project and Sound Transit’s Totem Lake Freeway Station Project. For more information or to sign up for e-mail updates, visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/i405.
