Drivers on Seattle’s eastside must plan ahead and check traffic pages to keep weekend plans moving
SEATTLE – This weekend is shaping up to be one of the toughest construction weekends for anyone traveling through or around Kirkland. It’s not the only spot where drivers will see construction, but it’s certainly the most visible.
New This Week
I-405, Kirkland
Contractors will close all northbound lanes of I-405 at NE 124th Street in Kirkland on Friday, June 23 at 10 p.m. The lanes will remain closed through Tuesday, June 27 at 5 a.m. We have built a temporary two-lane by pass next to the freeway, but it will not handle typical traffic volumes. Drivers should expect significant congestion. Drivers can get updates of the work throughout the construction: www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/I405/TotemLake/construction
SR 9, north of Woodinville
WSDOT contractors will close State Route 9 at 233rd Place SE from 10 p.m. Friday, June 23 to 5 a.m. Monday, June 26 to complete a local sewer improvement project. During the closure, traffic will follow a signed detour route using SR 522 and SR 524 (Maltby Road). Drivers should expect delays and plan accordingly.

I-5, Everett
WSDOT contractors will close the left-hand Broadway exit on I-5 in Everett Tuesday, June 27 at 2 a.m. The new right-hand exit will open at the same time. Drivers should be alert to this significant change. If you don’t use this exit, please be aware that drivers may be making last-minute lane changes to get to the new exit and that could affect you.

Looking Ahead
Summer’s here, bike safely
Now that summer is here, you may notice a lot more cyclists out on the roadway. Cyclists can use the same roads as drivers. It’s important that cyclists watch for drivers and drivers watch for cyclists. Both may be distracted in work zones. www.wsdot.wa.gov/bike/Safety_Tips.htm
