Contractor crews will begin work on Friday, July 7th on a section of US 195 in Whitman County and Spokane County. The work will be underway in an eight-mile section between Rosalia and Plaza.
This resurfacing project is a part of the Department’s pavement preservation program and will consist of grinding out about two inches of the existing driving lane surface and replacing it with a new asphalt layer. The existing shoulders will remain.
Placement of construction signs will begin on Friday, June 30 with preliminary items and bridge deck repair work getting underway on Friday, July 7. Motorists may see some single lane traffic directed by flaggers at several bridge locations over the next week.
Pavement grinding operations should get underway on Monday, July 24th with paving to follow the first week of August. The asphalt paving work should take about two weeks. During grinding and paving operations, motorists should expect single lane traffic directed by flaggers and pilot cars with possible delays up to 15 minutes at times.
The project should be fully completed by late August. As always, paving work is dependent on the weather. Wet, cool conditions may cause delays to the paving operations on this project.
Degerstrom Corporation of Spokane is the prime contractor on this project with a construction bid of $1.7 million. Chad Simonson is the WSDOT project engineer.
