EVERETT – WSDOT Crews have good news for commuters, travelers and shoppers who use the Bothell-Everett Highway (SR 527). At 3 p.m., Friday, May 12, KLB Construction Crews working for WSDOT opened all five freshly paved lanes of SR 527 to drivers. The new lanes, located between 132nd SE in Mill Creek to 112th SE in Everett, complete an almost twelve-mile long corridor widening project between Interstate 5 and Intestate 405.
The opening of these new lanes marks a major milestone for WSDOT, Snohomish County, and the cities of Everett, Mill Creek and Bothell. Together they have worked to transform the outdated two lane roadway into a modern five lane urban highway. Drivers now have two lanes in each direction from I-405 in Bothell to I-5 in Everett and middle-turn lanes at many intersections.
“The extra lanes will help keep traffic moving and reduce congestion related accidents on this vital corridor,” said Fahning. “We want to thank drivers as well as the businesses and residents in the Silver Lake area for their patience during construction.”
However, crews are still not done improving this section of highway. Drivers will see crews actively working throughout the next month placing permanent striping on the roadway, adjusting utilities and adding the finishing touches to landscaping near the highway.
The final portion of the widening project is partially funded through the Nickel Transportation Funding Package enacted by the 2003 Washington State Legislature. WSDOT expects to complete work on the $20.6 million highway widening project by mid-June. For more information, visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/SR527/CorridorWiden/132ndSE_112thSE/.
