PUYALLUP – The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and its contractor, Tucci & Sons Inc. of Tacoma, begin work Monday, May 15, to pave State Route (SR) 512 from 104th Street to SR 167. The safety and pavement improvement project, scheduled to take 45 working days, will consist of mostly nighttime traffic impacts.

For the week of May 15, pavement repairs will lead to intermittent lane and ramp closures on eastbound and westbound SR 512. Work hours are 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday through Friday.

The $2.3 million project will ultimately result in a safer route and smoother ride for motorists. Safety enhancements will bring existing guardrail up to current impact-absorbing standards. A new smooth surface will overlay the current rutted pavement.

Grinding and paving on the bridge over the Puyallup River will require traffic to detour onto Meridian for three nights in June – exact dates are not yet determined.
