OLYMPIA - The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has tapped a private industry rail shipping expert for a new position as the agency’s Multimodal Manager. Scott Witt of Vancouver Wash., will serve as WSDOT’s key contact for managing shipping line programs: port; rail; and the highway system. He will act as project manager for the Transportation Commission’s rail capacity study. Witt also will assume responsibility for WSDOT negotiations involving the Palouse Coulee City Rail Road.
Witt most recently was the Director of Corporate Transportation Oregon Steel Mills, Inc. of Portland, Ore., where he conceived, developed, and delivered the corporate transportation and logistics strategy.
Scott brings a significant vision for the integration of freight systems that will well serve the state’s shippers and freight interests,” said Barbara Ivanov, WSDOT Office of Freight Strategy and Policy director. “He will play a critical role in our ongoing effort to make the Palouse Coulee City Railroad a viable option for Eastern Washington shippers.”
Witt earned a bachelors of science degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix. He also carries affiliations with the Pacific Northwest Association of Rail Shippers, the National Industrial Transportation League, the Portland Propeller Club, and the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals.
