KIRKLAND – Construction effects on traffic on and around Interstate 405 in Kirkland May 18-25:
Interstate 405 mainline
- NEW – Expect closures of up to two right lanes of northbound I-405 near NE 124th Street every night except Friday. The first lane will close at 9 p.m., the second at 10 p.m., and all lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. (On Saturday night the first lane will close at 7 p.m., the second at 11 p.m. and all lanes will reopen by 10 a.m. Sunday.) Crews will do prep work for the upcoming lowering of a section of northbound I-405.
- NEW – Expect closures of the southbound and northbound HOV lanes near NE 116th Street Monday through Wednesday nights. Southbound closures will occur between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. Northbound closures will occur between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.
- Expect periodic closures of the northbound and southbound HOV lanes near NE 124th Street EXCEPT during rush hours and on Friday night. These closures protect drivers as construction vehicles enter and leave the median work zone.
I-405 / NE 116th and NE 124th Street interchanges
- NEW – All northbound on-ramps at the NE 124th interchange will be closed Monday through Wednesday nights for paving. The ramp from eastbound NE 124th will close at 9 p.m., and the ramps from westbound NE 124th and Totem Lake Blvd. will close at 11 p.m. The northbound off-ramps will remain open. Drivers wishing to enter northbound I-405 will be detoured to NE 160th Street. All three on-ramps will reopen by 5 a.m. each morning.
- Drivers should expect delays, especially during rush hours, at the southbound I-405 on-ramp at NE 116th Street. This ramp is reduced to one lane for several months as crews widen the freeway at this location. When the ramp meter is operating, traffic may use two lanes on the ramp approaching the meter. Carpools, vanpools and buses may use the HOV bypass lane at the NE 124th Street southbound on-ramp.
Kirkland streets affected by I-405 construction
- The right lane in each direction of Totem Lake Blvd. near NE 128th Street will be closed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. This protects drivers as construction vehicles enter and leave the work zone.
- UPDATED - The right lane of northbound 116th Ave. NE near NE 128th Street will be closed Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Crews will fill in the area behind the new retaining wall along southbound I-405.
These closures are necessary for crews to perform work associated with WSDOT’s Kirkland Nickel Improvement Project and Sound Transit’s Totem Lake Freeway Station Project. For more information or to sign up for e-mail updates on these projects, visit www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/i405.
