Open House Scheduled and Contract Awarded for I-205 Mill Plain Blvd. Southbound Off Ramp Project

VANCOUVER – The public will have the opportunity to learn more about the I-205 Southbound Off Ramp Improvement Project – the first Transportation Partnership-funded project to be constructed in Southwest Washington - Thursday, May 11. The construction contract was recently awarded to the Nutter Corporation, who submitted the winning bid of $428,428.00.

The open house will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2006 to introduce the project and educate the public on traffic impacts. Representatives from the Columbia River Crossing project will also be present to discuss ideas currently under consideration to improve congestion and safety on a five-mile stretch of I-5 between SR 500 in Vancouver and Columbia Boulevard in Portland and includes the Interstate Bridge.

At the open house, the public will be able to view displays and talk to WSDOT staff about the projects. Feedback about the projects, associated concerns and suggestions from the public are also welcome. There will be no formal presentations, so the public is encouraged to stop by anytime between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The I-205 Mill Plain Boulevard Southbound Off Ramp Improvement project is the first Transportation Partnership Account funded project to begin construction in Southwest Washington. This project will add a second left turn lane increasing capacity and safety. The purpose of the project is to provide congestion relief and improve mobility for traffic seeking to turn left on the I-205 Mill Plain Boulevard southbound off ramp during peak hours. The addition of a second left turn lane will improve overall traffic flow and increase safety by alleviating the potential for accidents due to traffic build-ups. The project is scheduled to begin this spring and will last through summer 2006.
