CENTRALIA – The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will host a public open house on May 9, 2006 to present alternatives for a project in Lewis and Thurston Counties that will widen I-5 between Mellen Street and Grand Mound.
Tuesday, May 9, 2006
4 p.m. - 7 p.m. (stop by anytime)
Centralia Middle School
901 Johnson Road, Centralia, WA
At the open house, the public will be able learn about alternative designs for the project at the Mellen Street interchange area. Staff will be available to answer questions. Feedback about the project in general, other concerns and suggestions are also welcome. There will be no formal presentations, so the public is welcome to stop by anytime between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Improving safety and mobility, and increasing capacity on I-5 are the primary goals of the I-5, Mellen Street to Grand Mound project. The project area is a seven-mile stretch of I-5 that runs through Lewis and Thurston Counties, as well as the City of Centralia. In addition to widening, some of the other improvements that will be phased include improving the existing interchanges at Mellen Street and Harrison Avenue, replacing existing bridges over the Schookumchuck River and Blakeslee Junction railroad crossing to accommodate a wider I-5, upgrading I-5 to meet current design standards, and accommodating planned improvements to the railroad system in the project area.
