VANCOUVER – The Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP) Rehabilitation Project to repair I-5, from I-205 to the North Fork Lewis River Bridge was awarded on February 21, announced the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). WSDOT awarded the construction contract for this project to ACME Concrete Paving, Inc. of Spokane, Wash., who submitted the winning bid of $6,818,712.50.
This project, funded by pre-existing transportation funds, will repair concrete panels on I-5 between I-205 and the North Fork Lewis River Bridge, just south of Woodland. A PCCP Rehabilitation process entails replacing concrete panels and installing dowel bars between panels, which join the panels together. This process also includes grinding the ruts in the pavement surface which will result in a smoother ride for motorists.
Construction will begin in late spring 2006. During construction, motorists should expect some traffic impacts, including daytime and nighttime lane closures in both directions of I-5 and reduced speed limits in work zones. Once the contractor’s construction schedule is submitted, detailed traffic impacts will be made available to the public.
