Washington State Ferries is continuing the improvement process of terminal facilities by replacing the hydraulic systems and control systems that operate the movable bridges to meet increased reliability needs as well as safety and standardization requirements at both the Pt. Defiance and Tahlequah terminals. This project will replace vulnerable hydraulic systems that may become prone to leakage due to design and age, as well as standardize the control systems.

The three-day closure is needed to give the contractor uninterrupted time to switch over to the new hydraulic system and test operation of the system. To reduce the time needed for the closure much of the new equipment will be installed in advance of the closure.
