EVERETT – Crews working for Washington State Department of Transportation and Atkinson-CH2M Hill, will detour traffic and close the US 2 ramp to southbound Interstate 5 in Everett, Wash. tonight between midnight and 5 a.m. Saturday morning. Drivers can expect minimal delays during the short detour. Because of wet weather and snow, crews cancelled Thursday's closure and rescheduled the work for tonight.

Drivers wanting to go to southbound I-5 will continue straight on the US 2 exit ramp to Maple Street, take a left onto Maple Street and continue through to the Pacific Avenue onramp to southbound I-5. Crews will work as fast as possible and will reopen the ramp by 5 a.m. or sooner.

After tomorrow night's closure, drivers need to be aware that the US 2 ramp will be in a different configuration. Crews will place barrier and restripe the ramp to set up a temporary work zone. Drivers will notice a narrower lane shifted to the inside and barrier on both sides of the exit ramp. Drivers are encouraged to slow down and pay attention in the work zone.

This US 2 ramp closure is needed to keep drivers and workers safe as crews set up a work zone to build retaining walls and widen portions of the bridge. The ramp closures are just a part of the I-5 Everett Freeway expansion project where crews will widen 18 bridges (including I-5 over passes, exits and on ramps), to accommodate new freeway lanes. Crews will also build (or replace) five bridges, including the new 41st Street bridge and the new right-hand Broadway Avenue flyover bridge.
