CHEHALIS – State Route 508 in Lewis County will be closed in the town of Onalaska on Friday, February 10 from 6 a.m., in order to repair the pavement from previous damage, announced the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). The repaired section of the roadway is on mile post 7 near Hyak Road in Onalaska. Detour will be set up for the duration of the closure.
The closure will begin at 6 a.m. and will continue throughout the day until the work is finished. This paving work is an emergent repair from a settlement which happened on January 13. At that time, WSDOT closed the road for seven days after severe settling of the pavement due to the rainy conditions made the road unsafe for motorists. During the closure, an emergency contractor stabilized the roadway, and WSDOT was able to re-open the road temporarily, while monitoring for further settling, before repaving the roadway surface.
On Friday, motorists traveling eastbound on SR 508 will be detoured to go right on Jackson Highway, left on SR 12, left on Leonard Road, and back right onto SR 508. Motorists traveling westbound on SR 508 will be detoured to go left on Leonard Road, right on SR 12, right on Jackson Highway, and left back onto SR 508. The detour is approximately eight miles long. Advance message signs will be posted for vehicles traveling on SR 508.
