As directed by the Legislature, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will embark upon a statewide Long-term Air Transportation Study. The purpose of the study is to examine our state’s aviation system and develop a plan for long-term strategic investments.

“It comes down to figuring out what we have, what we need, and what we need to do to get there,” said WSDOT Aviation Director John Sibold. He added that this is the first time such an assessment has ever been made of Washington’s long-term aviation needs.

WSDOT is now entering into a 10-day public comment period to solicit input on its draft communication plan for the Long-term Air Transportation Study (pdf 214 kb). WSDOT recognizes that the aviation system planning process is a dynamic activity that relies heavily on ideas, comments and questions from the public. WSDOT outlines our goals and strategies for consistent public outreach and involvement in the draft communication plan (pdf 214 kb).

Please fax, e-mail, or mail comments to WSDOT Aviation by 5 p.m. on Thursday, February 16,2006.
