WENATCHEE – Drivers in North Central Washington now have access to 18 traffic cameras and weather stations on area highways. Three new camera and Road Weather Information Station (RWIS) installations now provide views of US 2 at Winton, between Tumwater Canyon and Lake Wenatchee, US 97 at the junction with US 97A, north of Chelan Falls and I-90 at the Dodson Road interchange, between George and Moses Lake. The new images were added to the WSDOT internet site December 22nd.
The traffic cameras are available from the WSDOT statewide traffic and roads web page, http://wsdot.wa.gov/traffic/ and they’re also included on the North Central Washington WSDOT Region camera page www.wsdot.wa.gov/regions/northcentral/camera.cfm
Traffic cameras remain the mostly highly used web pages on the WSDOT Web site. The primary purpose for the cameras and weather stations is for WSDOT maintenance staff to determine how to most efficiently dispatch employees and equipment during weather events. The camera images are made available to the public to improve highway operations as drivers can make better travel decisions when they can see the traffic and weather conditions along their planned route, before they head out on the road.
