SEATTLE - The Washington State Department of Transportation is delivering faster results to Eastside commuters by accelerating plans for a new flyover ramp connecting State Route 202 with westbound SR 520 through Redmond. Community members are invited to attend an open house on October 5 to learn more about how WSDOT is responding to public requests and speeding up efforts to complete this important part of the SR 520 West Lake Sammamish Parkway to SR 202 Add Lanes project.
WSDOT is widening SR 520 between West Lake Sammamish Parkway and SR 202 to reduce travel times and improve safety for vehicles traveling on both SR 202 and SR 520 through Redmond. Plans to build a flyover ramp from SR 202 to westbound SR 520 are being advanced to start construction in early 2007 and open to traffic three years ahead of the original schedule, pending obtaining environmental permits. The flyover ramp is an essential part of the larger project and will provide faster and more direct access to westbound SR 520 from SR 202.
In addition to the flyover ramp, this project builds additional merge and carpool lanes, interchange safety improvements at West Lake Sammamish Parkway, an improved trail connection, and new storm water runoff treatment. The Nickel Transportation Funding Package approved by the 2003 Legislature provides $102.3 million for this project
Project staff will be available at the open house to answer questions about the project, affects to neighbors and commuters, and the project schedule.
