SHINE - So far, so good for the three-day State Route 104 Hood Canal Bridge closure that began last night, Aug. 11. Construction crews worked through the night, rolling the 190-foot western approach span 40 feet to the south - making room for the new bridge deck - in just 2.5 hours.

Traffic across the Hood Canal Bridge slowed to a trickle in the minutes leading up to the 8 p.m. closure deadline. Within minutes, the contractor - Kiewit-General of Poulsbo - began the preliminary work that led to initiating the deck roll at roughly 1:30 a.m.

Work continues through the day and weekend. Kiewit-General crews are expected to begin rolling the new roadway into its permanent alignment mid-morning today, Aug. 12. The roll operation should be completed by evening.

Once the new roadway is in place, work turns to securing the deck, installing an expansion joint, installing new approach slabs (the road leading to the new bridge deck) and paving.

Detailed construction progress updates will be posted on-line throughout the closure weekend at www.hoodcanalbridge.com. Project information also will be available by calling 877-595-HCB2.
