SHINE – A span longer than two football fields is out of the way so crews working on the Hood Canal Bridge can begin rolling the new 640-foot eastern approach span into place.
Once the new roadway is in place, work turns to securing the deck at all six piers, installing an expansion joint, installing new approach slabs (the road leading to the new bridge deck) and paving.
The bridge is scheduled to reopen by 4 a.m. Thursday.
WSDOT maintenance crews report no traffic problems along US 101, the alternate driving route. Travelers can find land, air and water options for getting to and from the peninsula at www.hoodcanalbridge.com.
Detailed construction progress updates will be posted online throughout the closure weekend at www.hoodcanalbridge.com. Project information also will be available by calling 877-595-HCB2.
