SHINE – Washington State Department of Transportation officials remind motorists that the State Route 104 Hood Canal Bridge closes tonight, Aug. 11, at 8 p.m. The bridge will reopen by 4 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15. However, the Olympic Peninsula remains an excellent summer destination for would be weekend travelers.
Motorists that are not crossing the bridge at 8 p.m. must drive around the Hood Canal. Detailed driving directions and additional bridge closure "survival tips" can be found on-line at www.hoodcanalbridge.com.
According to the Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce, hotels on the Olympic Peninsula still have availability. And, travelers have several options for reaching Clallam and Jefferson counties.
- The Port Townsend Chamber of Commerce (www.ptchamber.org) is sponsoring a Port Townsend to Seattle passenger-only ferry.
- Kenmore Air (800-543-9595 or www.kenmoreair.com) flies roundtrips between Boeing Field and Port Angeles Airport.
- Charter Mountain High Aviation (800-595-7640 or www.mountainhigh-aviation.com) offers charter flights to Port Angeles.
- Olympic Bus Lines (360-417-0700 or www.olympicbuslines.com) offers shuttle service between Port Angeles and Seattle destinations.
