Washington State Imagery
Statewide Coverage
The WSDOT Aerial Photography Branch is now producing ‘Value-Added’ imagery of the entire state of Washington.
These images were captured in 2006 with a film-based mapping camera. They are natural color and have a one meter resolution.
Customers can order either the uncorrected high resolution imagery or the ortho-correct digitally compressed version.
Both versions are available in digital and/or hardcopy form.
Our digital studio will produce any sized area through an enlargement or mosaic process.

The Washington State Department of Transportation Aerial Imaging Branch - A Cost Recovery Operation
The funding of our operation is on a cost-recovery basis. We operate with revenues generated from the services and products we provide.
Our Branch responds to requests from all levels of local, state, federal and tribal governments under the terms of the Washington State Inter-local Cooperation Act, (RCW 39.34).
The Branch is tasked to acquire dynamic, timely, high definition aerial images on film negatives. We maintain and continuously expand the archives with more than one-half million high resolution images now available for printing.
Our photo lab uses black and white, true color and color infrared film negatives to produce hard copy (usually photo print positives on paper).
Our digital studio scans the original film negatives to produce digital images for use in a multitude of applications.
Examples of high definition color aerial images are available for free download, Image 1 (tif 57 mb) & Image 2 (tif 60 mb), to demonstrate their potential applications. They were scanned from the original 1:24,000 scale negatives at 12.5 micron resolution to produce a 12 inch ground sample distance. Caution: Download time may exceed 20 minutes using dial-up connections.
Our staff of six people is thoroughly trained and averages over 25 years of experience in the specialized discipline of aerial imaging . The scope and volume of work we do is nearly unlimited.
