About This Byway
Lewis and Clark's adventure along the Columbia River was among the most vivid, and compelling episodes of the entire journey. With the assistance of the Native American tribes they encountered, the expedition successfully navigated the Columbia and Snake Rivers. The Expedition first saw the Pacific Ocean near present day Chinook. After completing their mission, members took a historic vote selecting the location of their winter camp.
