Corridor Performance:

• On average the general purpose lanes operate near the posted speed limit except during the PM peak period when significant congestion frequently occurs in both directions.

• HOV traffic and Mercer Island traffic both make use of the center roadway on the I-90 Bridge. This roadway is a reversible facility, which operates inbound to Seattle in the morning and outbound in the afternoon. There is substantial unused capacity in the center roadway. In the PM peak period the reversible roadway carries nearly as many people per lane per hour as the average general purpose lane. HOV traffic in the reversible lanes operates at the posted speed limit.

• In the peak direction transit service utilizes the reversible lanes. Ridership is strongly peak directional.
