• Northbound the HOV lane provides a travel time advantage beginning about noon and lasting until about 7:30 PM. Slowing in the HOV lane occurs primarily during the PM peak in the area between Northgate and the Snohomish County line.
• HOV lane speed and reliability falls below the state standard an average of about one day per week during the PM peak period.

• Southbound the HOV lane provides large travel time savings during morning commute hours, and a smaller advantage through the day until approximately 6:00 PM. This travel time advantage is attributable to congestion in the general purpose lanes that regularly occurs during the morning peak period.
• HOV lane speed falls below the state standard of 45 mph nearly half the time during the AM peak period. HOV volumes are fairly high, around 1,500 vehicles per lane per hour, but the slowing appears to be the result of merging and friction from the congested general purpose lanes.
