Northbound the HOV lane enjoys a substantial travel time advantage beginning about 5:00 AM and lasting throughout the day to nearly 7:00 PM. In the morning peak period travel time savings average about 12 minutes. This large travel time advantage is attributable to the heavy morning congestion in the general purpose lanes.

Despite the high travel time savings compared with the general purpose lanes, the HOV lane still fails to meet the state performance standard for about an hour on an average morning. This slowing appears to be the result of friction from the severely congested general purpose lanes rather than high volumes in the HOV lane. Outside of the morning peak hour this HOV lanes operates with a high level of speed and reliability.

The HOV lane experiences slowing in several locations, including the Kennydale Hill and approaching the SR 167 interchange.
