WSDOT closely monitors fuel prices and how those fuel prices might affect drivers' behavior. Last year, Washington state and the rest of the country began to see rapid fuel price increases, followed by a tremendous drop in those prices. WSDOT data shows that the increased fuel prices probably contributed to motorists changing their driving habits.
