Deckhand employment

The ferry system hires all employees, with the exception of management positions, through various unions.

In the case of deck and terminal (dock) employees, hiring is done through the Inlandboatmen's Union (IBU). Generally, hiring for such positions is done in May and names are forwarded to the WSF Human Resources Department from a list compiled by the IBU from an earlier registration they hold. Details on that initial registration process may be obtained from the IBU at 206-284-5040.

All positions are entry level, on-call and last only through the summer season. As you build seniority, you will be called back earlier each year and work longer until you are working full-time (this usually takes 3 to 4 years or longer)
